This has been a crazy summer with a lot of working and taking a business college class. I work every day on weekdays from 9 am to 5 pm. The company I was working/interning for was called Bay Port Group Real Estate. It is located in Oakland, California but has plans to move in the near future. Some skills used were communication skills, Teamwork, Problem-solving, Leadership, and Organization. All these skills were used this summer, but A few that I used the most would be communication, teamwork, and leadership.
A few duties I had to do daily worked with my colleagues to solve daily problems we had and talking to clients for my boss. At times I would also get lunch for the office and help deliver and pick up packages. I would also have meetings weekly with my boss and his clients. All these duties were done a great number of times throughout the summer, especially having to go check out the projects my boss currently is working on.
I really learned a lot this summer, and I am so fortunate to be able to have an experience like that. It was indeed a learning experience, and I met many great people and learned a lot about how real estate works and how to become a developer because that is my future goal. I learned a lot about how to build houses and warehouses. An important thing I learned this summer was all the requirements and materials needed to build the houses. As well as laws and regulations by the city. Most of the things I learned this summer I had no idea about and it was really an eye-opening experience because I feel like I know a lot more about real estate and business now.
One example of an obstacle during the internship was driving around an hour to maybe even an hour and a half to check on projects my boss is currently working on. It wasn’t much of an obstacle, but it was something that I had to do almost every day, and the only obstacle would just be the long drive. Overall it was a good experience, and I got to see a lot of new properties and new land. I also got to see how they are being built and watch the materials the workers used.
I had already done this internship last summer, and I already kind of knew what to expect. My expectation was for it to be like last summer but with more work, and I was correct. Although I had a heavier workload this summer than last year, it was still a very fun and enjoyable experience with my colleagues. My boss was super friendly and was always teaching me new things about real estate over the course of this summer. I worked well over 200 hours this whole summer and I would say the best part would be having new things to learn about every day and being able to work with great people. It was definitely a great time, and I plan to do it next summer as well.
